Building Energy Rating

Background

At present, all newly constructed houses need a Building Energy Rating (BER) Certificate. From January 1st 2009, a BER Certificate will be required for all houses for sale or rent.

Greener Smarter provide BER Certificates at competitive rates. In addition we provide a wide range of energy advice options from a Certified BER Assessor. We can offer advice at any stage of your project: at completion, during construction, at design stage or even before you hire a designer. For more information, visit the SEI website.

We can give advice on all aspects of any improvements. We can calculate:

  1. the energy performance of a house as is
  2. what savings certain improvements would make
  3. how much these improvements would cost
  4. how long these improvements would take to pay for themselves

We offer two main types of BER service: a Standard BER and a Comprehensive BER. Below is a discription of these two main options. A client may also add some extra options to the Standard or the Comprehensive packages (see Additional Options below).

Standard BER

The Standard BER service consists of the following:

  • The BER Certificate and Standard Advisory Report
  • The main improvement options available (i.e.what’s physically possible)
  • Estimate of the cost of these improvement options
  • Estimate how much the properties’ energy efficiency will improve by making these changes.
  • A simple payback analysis.

Comprehensive BER

The Comprehensive BER Report consists of the Standard BER Report (see above) as well as the following:

  • A detailed customised payback analysis which includes estimates of how long each improvement takes to pay for itself for the full range of possible improvements.
  • Advice on renewables.
  • Maintenance considerations, convenience, ease of installation and suitability for your property of the various improvement options.

Additional Options
You can also choose from the following additional options to add to the Standard or the Comprehensive BER:

  • Price quotations from local suppliers / installers - customised to your particular property. With this option by using our network of suppliers and prices, we can save you a lot of time and effort.
